I have found the perfect truck. It is a 98 Chevy Z71 extended cab 6 foot bed. It has 60,000 miles and perfect interior and exterior. It has a bedliner, and $2,000 worth of wheels and tires. The wheels are 15x10 eagle alloys on 32x10.50 Michelin tires. It also has the 3rd door, 350 motor, and auto trans with push botton 4x4. The asking price is 18,999. Is this a good price? Thanks!

Go to Edmunds.com to check out the price. It seems too expensive for a truck that old. Also, if you are planning serious off road activity then look for a Ford or Dodge with a solid live front axel.

I thought that was the whole idea of a independent front axil...Better for off-roading.

I have a '98 Z71. I love it, best truck I have owned. All the power I need. Pulled a trailer with 2 Small Allis Chalmers tractors from Tennessee to Ohio 2 times. My biggest problem was the transmission. (Before) going to Tennessee I had problems with hard shifting, turns out had to spend $1500 to have the tranny rebuilt. Seems the 4L60e has a valve body problem and at about 100,000 miles wear causes hard shifting when the tranny gets hot, haveing a cooler helps, but the hard shifting and overheating cuased mine to burn up some expensive parts. When the problem arose in my truck I didn't have a cooler. I put a good cooler on it and the rebuild now it runs as smooth as you could ever want. Keeping that oil good and clean is good also. Changeing around every 50,000 miles is a good idea. If a hard shifting problem does occur, lock the tranny out of 4 gear(overdrive) this will allow the oil to flow differently reduceing the heat and wear. When I pulled the trailer I locked it out of 4th most of the trip. All in all I love the truck, I wouldn't trade it except for maybe a 3/4 or 1 ton of the same make.

Hope this helps

Having spent a couple of years trying to make a living selling cars I discovered that there is no "perfect" car or truck. What's perfect is what's perfect for you. That's why they make so many different styles of vehicle. If a Chevy Z71 were the perfect vehicle, we'd all have one.

As for price....seems steep. I bought a '98 Dodge Ram 2500 for $8500. Granted the miles were high and it's not an extended cab (didn't want one) nor is it 4x4 (didn't want that either) so it was the "perfect" truck for me.

Here's a link to N.A.D.A.'s website so you can judge for yourself on the price vs book value.
