I would like to get in contact with someone who really knows NH 55 rakes. I have just bought a used NH 55 rake and I have several questions about the drivetrain components and gearboxes - specifically about gearbox overhaul, seals, shims washers, drive wheel "maintenance", pto "play", and just plain-old tips! Thanx.

I have 2 of the old NH55 rakes. I don't have the manuals on them, however common sense will tell you how to shim out the play in driveline. You want to shim out all you can. The hubs are what always give me a headache, they wear out quik, they bust easy, and they are very expensive. They are a very efficient rake when they rake right, but when they don't uh-oh. 3 years ago I bought a Sittrex, 5 large wheel ground drive, I think 11 1/2 ft rake it's lighter, faster, and cheaper to maintain. It only cost $675 at Beaumont Tex, and I can go hook up to it and be through raking in about the same time span it takes to tune and adjust my old 55. I'm not knocking the NH, but when it lays down, it seems to be cheaper to replace it. Sometimes the help will tear stuff up, and so far they have'nt been able to break even a tooth out of the Sittrex.
On operating the NH, I always have to take it as slow & easy as possible. The parts for the NH 55 are cheaper at TSC, if there's one nearby they usually have about all the parts. Stay clear of NH Parts if you can, the price their paint to high. Good luck and happy baling. Jerry
