How iportant is the deflector rod being up against the twister shaft? How tight should it be against the shaft. How important is the amount of turn put in the end of the deflector rod?> My twister shafts have a groove about a good inch long spirialing away from the hook. The groove is smaller than the wire that goes thru it. tHE deflector shafts are both grooved bad. I can remake them.

Mine is a 1960 140W wire bailer. It talks about deflector rods and twister shafts (the shafts have a big 2in silver hook fitted into the enside end to twist the wire while tying and a gear attached to the outside end. It shows this on page 49 f the owners manual. I ha ve had this bailer for round 18yrs. Bailed good in the beginning, finally got to where it wouod only bale 25 bales before missing. I gt never seez and swabed on the shafts and that would keep it going for another 25 bales, but I decvided this year I would try to fix it right if I could

The wire part explains my confusion. I haven't had anything to do with one yet. Hmm. I might have a manual at the shop for a 140. Email me tomorrow (not today, Sun) and when I open at the shop I'll remember to look if you want.
