Don't round balers have knotters similar to square balers. I hear of all kinds of problems with knotters on small square balers, but never see anyone having problems with knotters on large round balers. What is the difference?

There are no knotters on a round baler, the twine is just wrapped around the bale from one end to another on some balers, and from the middle to the outside on others, while the bale is still turning in the bale chamber. the pressure of the hay tightens the twine enough to keep it from falling off, the only way a the twine can come off is if someone starts at one end and unwinds the bale or the round bale is handled or rolled alot. But there is no knot on the twine, and no knotters on the baler.

Guys below got it. My manual says "feed the string in with hay and wrap it". When complete, move string tube back to "home" position and the string is cut automatically.

Round balers simply wrap the bale many times as the bale turns and then cuts the string. No knot.

Then what keeps the twine from unraveling and coming off? It seems something would need to hold the loose ends.

Operator (or machine) makes several turns at each end of bale. Unless you roll them a lot, they don't unravel. They're too heavy to push anyway!
