How old, and how inexpensive a round baler

can it be, and still get one that will bale? I would like to find an older John Deere round baler, but don't want to spend too much cash. Is a 500 or 510 likely to provide fairly reliable, light service, or do I need a 535?

I am hoping for something similar in price and age, to the JD 337 small square baler I already have. The hay I bale gets fed to horses, so I still need to use the 337, but there are times when the necessary "help" is unavailable and a Round Baler would enable me to bale a cash crop for resale without the need for any other assistance.

JD70Jim,A 500 JD baler is the first Jd Rd. baler. That is not a good choice because it had a bottom belt that went all the way across the bottom of baler. It has no hyd. tension, just spring tension,510 JD baler improved, but still spring tension, crick in neck from looking back.530 has hyd. tension, monitor(gauges),no crick in neck, tighter bales, more money.Happy hay baling,Jim

You should be able to find a suitable older baler for under $2,500. Be aware however in this neck-of-the-woods many customers want the net wrapped bales! (they shed rain better)

I provided a link below for you to do a search which will give you an idea of the available machines and their asking prices.
