6" is the standard size belt that you need, 8" is for the steem engines, to wide for the tractor pullys

round baler belting is fine and will take the torque . we are using it on a ih 503 combine as the main thresher drive and its on its second year taking around a 100hp.

Bamco belting in Greenville, SC makes any belt you want, even leather. Also, Meadows Co. in North Carolina sells belts. They both have web sites. Use your search engine or email me for addresses or phone numbers.

Use Richard's advice and deal with the proper suppliers. Definately do not use round-baler belting as it is designed only to form the bales and will not take the torque required with drive belts to drive machinery. You could wind up seriously hurt using anything less.

Conveyor belting of the proper thickness probably will work well. If splicing (lacing) equipment is available to you, wide conveyor belting could be cut to your width and spliced in pieces to get the length. The fewer splices, the better, but more usually will work satifactorily.
