Need a rechargable battery for my electric fencer, what's a good choice?? A car battery is not ment to be continually charged and discharged, and although a deep cycle marine battery would work they are kind of pricey. The size of a lawnmower battery would be perfect - do they make one specifically for a fencer??

I've used a Parmak MAGNUM 12 U.O. for a few years now with an inexpensive deep cycle marine battery that I bought from k-mart. I recommend this model since it has a gauge on it which let's you know if its time to recharge the battery or if something is shorting out the fence. I have to recharge the battery about every 3 months.

Hi Peter,

i use the lawn mower batts but charge them with a solar panel that is sold by northern for about $60. the one problem i have is that the batts have to be sheltered from rain, which will dilute the electrolite. so i build little racks with tops to hold and protect the batteries. in my experience sealed gel batteries work fine also, if you have a cheap source. i have to also admit that i use auto/tractor batts that are too weak to be servicable. but again i use the solar panels to keep them up.

Car battery will work fine, just make sure if charger is 6 volt or 12 volt and use acording, you will not discharge that often

I see them all the time in the farm supply stores by the fencers. No experience with them, my fencer plugs in.
