I am looking for ideas on how to build a fork-lift attachment. I would like to mount it on my saginaw 3pt hitch. I realize you can buy the "forks" for a 3pt, but I would like to use a fork-lift "mast" for extra height. I have been searching for a used forklift mast with no luck- where do you find those things? The dealers seem to want alot for them, plus they are a little too big for what I want to to do. I only want to be able to lift 1200 lbs about 10ft high. I am starting to think it would be easier and cheaper to mount the forks on a loader. I have access to a metal fab shop, so my capabilities of construction are not limited.

I did find a really old allis chalmers fork-lift with 2500 lb rating and 8ft lift height. The guy wanted a $1000 for it, but I did not want the whole thing- nor did I want to spend over $400.

I'm kinda looking for the same thing. Hope you get some replies, & we aren't in the same area. :)

Hey, do you mean an IHC or Farmall 300 tractor? Isn't that a pretty light tractor to be putting 1200 lbs on, esp that high? My Ford 7700 can pop a wheelie with a 1200 lb round bale on the back, with fluid in the front tires....

It's Farmall 300.. I was just guessing on the maximum weight capacity. It will be mainly usd for moving pallets of pumpkins (500lbs) on and off trailers and moving junk in into the loft of the barn for storage. I wanted to mount it on the rear of the tractor to make the loads easier to maneuver. Is there a specific type of scrap yard that deals with heavy equipment? Most that I see are all automotive. I'm located near Minneapolis, MN.

Not an auto / truck salvage, A metal recycling yard. Company's tend to sell them as scrap (due to their wieght) when they aren't worth repairing. And those guys are't looking to make bucks off the parts, they'll re-sell pice's and parts at scrap prices.

I asked, because I have a row-crop 300 too. :) mine has the fast-hitch, & was the first year so it didn't have the upper link, altho dad added one. Mine has the weak rear axles as well, both crystalized & broke for dad - an interesting ride to say the least! At least dad was in the field - one broke for our neighbor as he was going down the road with a mounted corn picker. That would be a change of shorts!

Anyhow, don't plan on putting 1200 lbs over your head with a 300, I don't think that would be good. I'd do it with the Ford 7700, about twice the tractor, but even that would make me think....

Sounds like you have a good plan tho. :)

Paul- check with Mies Salvage- Ivan Mies in Litchfield- 320-693-2546. He has a couple D17 industrials with shuttle clutch that he used to use, 'plans' to fix but that's been for years. He's reasonable to deal with if you can just talk him out of stuff. Green may talk louder than checks. I'm 12 miles north of him- he should recognize my initials, or just mention scammed on 8 inch pipe!! Then he'll know who I am! Feel free to visit here too, or should I say 'here'?

Try a local scrap yard. I have bought many a part (hyd) off them at our local scrap yard. Like a 4 spool valve for 10 bucks..... They would probably sell ya the forks and lift for scrap price + a dime.
