HELP! I broke the input shaft on the T gearbox on my 1979 Rhino CYL 128 rotary mower. This is a 128" wide mower. This gearbox is now obsolete and I cannot find a replacement shaft. Rhino offers a new gearbox that can be adapted, in the $900-1000 range. I tried a machine shop to repair the shaft and they say it would easily break and be a waste of money. To remake the shaft they want $950. Does anyone have a cheaper idea, such as an aftermarket gearbox or something?

Had a similar problem 3 yrs ago with a stalk chopper and found another needing major knife and bearing repair. Dealer sold me the box- heavier than what was on my Sunmaster- for $275, and scrapped the rest. Had to adapt the drive shafts on the chopper but it works well. New price you were quoted is about normal.
