I am from KY and about to sow some red clover. What is the best variety that should be seeded? I have a limited list from a government program. I thought about Certified Kenland, Red Baron, or Red Gold Plus. I have already sent a soil test off. Thanks!

Kenland Certified, Solid, or Cinnimon. Best of your yield and persistence choices and approved on the Ky Phase I cost share list.

I used to think that these super-duper new red clover varieties are the ones that you should use until I read an article the suggested the best seed to sow would be some from an established grower in your area. Reason being that it has adjusted to your particular conditions by survival of those plants best suited. When you consider that the seed cost are usually about one third of the new big names and that the locals don't seem to have any trouble yielding 4 to 5 tons in my area, it was an easy decision for me. Any more yield would probably be wasted anyway, as mine aready starts going down if I don't get in there early to cut it and is difficult to pick up. Just my opinion.

Joe is right!! Get some local common red from a good grower; it will do as well as anything. Often, a good local grower may have better cultural practices, and thus better seed, than a commercial company that is interested in $$$$, first and foremost.
