It is a primary tillage tool. If you know what a field cultivator is, or know what a row crop cultivator is, it is essentially a heavier version of a field cultivator. They use a heavy shank with some kind of spring for rock protection. The shanks are placed every 12 to 18" on 3 or 4 bars. They tend to be about 12 to 15' wide. try the web site I think I put in. There are some good pictures of modern farm equipment. Older stuff is essentially the same thing, only smaller. For those of you who are partial to other colors, they have web sites too.

How well does the chisel plow work in an old hay field for a corn crop? I bought a 13shank chisel cheap and thought I would try it out. Will I have to disc alot afterwards? Thank you in advance.

Can put sweeps on it and get a partial kill. either spray it with Round Up first and then disc or moldboard it.
