Anyone have any comments on the use of 3point hitch type snowblowers? I have a chance to pick up an old one and have never used one before. I have a gravel driveway and don't know if it will turn out to be a royal pain to use because of the gravel. I'm wondering about putting wheels on the bottom in addition to the skid plates to help me. It is a two stage unit and looks almost 6' wide, probably a 30-50 HP unit. thanks

Those three point blowers work just great, but
keep in mind that they need a tractor that has a real slow reverse and live pto.

Here in the tundra (Minnesota) the skid plates are fine. Just angle the top link so the plates are holding it up. That's what works with my blower anyhow. If you have real mushy ground when it snows where you live, then it's more of a deal. Also, wet heavy melting snows do not blow well.

Here in northern Michigan where our snow lasts all winter, I just mash down the first 2 or 3 snowfalls and form a hardpack that is easy to keep clean with a blower. Not much gravel gets thrown that way. Dragging blower forward when you are packing acts just like a blade and leaves things smooth..... ..

The best way i found to use the blower i had, was to plow the snow to the edge of the drive, and then when it builds up on the sides and is in the way, i would put the blower on blow the berms out! That's how i did it in high snow fall years. Robert

I have a snowblower of this size that I have used on our gravel drive here in Wisconsin. My blower has shoes that can be set so it rides above the surface. These work fine once the ground is hard. However, if you have an early snow while the drive is still wet/soft, you can move a lot of dirt & gravel along with the snow.

With snow fall 4" or less, it is faster/easier to use a blade instead of the blower.
