Considering a JD 530 Baler

We have a Gehl 1500A roll baler we bought new in the 70's. It works fine, but the bales flatten out after they sit for a while.

I saw a JD 530 for sale the other day, so I gave the guy a call. He said he bought the baler new in 1989 and it works fine, but he wanted net wrap so he bought a new 566. He said he would have traded the 530, but his neighbor wanted to buy it. However, his ol neighbor backed out after he bought the new baler. This guy puts up a lot of hay, so this baler has produced several thousand rolls. He says that all but one of the belts have the new plate type lacing and this baler has the moniter with auto-tie. The baler shows wear, but I don't see anything visually wrong except the tires are starting to dry-rot. We only bale 250 - 300 rolls a year, so even a worn baler might last us a long time. We store our hay outside, so tighter rolls should last longer and fit on our roll bale wagon better. He's asking $4500. I've looked at some 535's, but they seem to run $8000 and up.

Is there any specific wear I should look for? Is this a good buy? Thanks in advance.

have run all three 530..535..and 566...to me the 530 would make a tighter bale because the baler used big springs and hyd tension..it is slow tieing.unless it is new enough to have twin arms..when you say thousands of bales...the 535 had 14000 rolls run thur it when we got it 2 years old...we ran it for 5 more years..yes the 530 will last a long time and something to think about the belts with new lacing cost about $230 a piece..sounds like it wasa kept up...have nice day may god bless
