Im loking for a hand corn planter to buy. I only know of those that have 2 handles of wood, and you slap them together to deposit the corn. If there are other types I migh be interested. I use an old 40s IH planter and they arent known for their planting consistancy and I want a hand planter to fill out rows.

Okla bill, You can buy these planters new from Johnnys Selected Seeds. The planter they sell do not have the seed dropping mechanism but thats an advantage, you can plant all kinds of seed with this planter. I use several of these Easy-Plant Jab planters to plant and replant a 10 acre market garden.

I know of 2 other kinds:

I've seen one kind similar to the 2-handled one you're talking about in flea markets around here. It has just one handle and a short metal arm coming out near the bottom. You put it down to the soil and sort of bend the wood handle to one side which works the arm, depositing the seed.

The other kind, what I use for my garden, is made by Earthway. It is a miniature version of a tractor seeder, except you push it by hand (a low-cost version of the old Planet JR. seeders). Can plant a 50' row in a minute or two and is fairly consistent. Cost me $50 new, but I've since seen them in flea markets for less. If you have fairly long stretches of missed seed, that'll be the best bet, but if you just need to add a few here and there the other type would be better. I like mine, it's plastic and looks cheap but I've beat on mine for a few years now and it doesn't break and comes with a bunch of other seed plates too.

good luck,
Tom
