560 farmall. I would like to put a front end loader on it. Nothing monstrous just a small bucket. This tractor has a trycicle front end. would this be a drawback? Also I have no idea which loader would fit this thing. Any help appreciated

Do yourself a favor and buy a wide front axle, and find or make loader to mount to your rear axle housing and the engine frame, have seen H&M's, 460-706's with broke housings between engine and transmissions that have more loader/hydralics than the tractor frame was designed for. Westendorf is a fine loader mfg. but can tear the heck out of these older tractors.

The trouble is, people put a loader on a tractor, and automatically think it's a bull dozer. Use it as it was intended, don't abuse it! It will work fine!

I agree with the other post about loaders on narrow front tractors not being the safest machines in the world. But, if you decide to go ahead with the idea, give "westendorf" a call. I've got a friend that put one of their loaders on an old Deutz utility tractor. Brackets and loader fit perfectly.

Many of the older lighter loaders designed for the 4 cylinder Farmalls have to be lenghtened about 6" to work. 560 being a 6 cylinder also just 6 " longer in wheelbase. Most of the loaders built after the 560 are quite heavy loaders. There may be some after market loaders out there.

As to the narrow front, not many loaders will work on much of a side hill. Even the big Cat, JD, etc. you see around quarries have to be careful when off level. My dad used a H then later a 300 narrow fronts with loaders for years. Set your rear wheels at 6' centres or wider and use lots of counter weight, liquid in tires, wheel weights and if you have fast hitch or 3 point build a counter weight for hitch, I had a block of concrete with fast hitch prongs or forks cast right in concrete, use lots of rebar. Secret is to increase tractor weight below the centre of graviety. After all that you still have to be careful WF or NF.

Loaders on tricycle front ends on anything but level ground are a death trap.

I think what your saying re: the level ground applies to any loader big or small, tractor or non-tractor. I probably have 5,000 hours in seat of tractor loader 10,000 on a skidsteer, However the most chilling moment I ever had on a loader was a Cat 966. When those loaders get 7-8 ton up height of a tandem truck, they can give you a thrill any narrow front Farmall can.

I was at a quarry this summer, guy with a loader that would lift 12 ton full height. He wouldn't load trucks when he was more than 2" off level sideways. He wasn't fussy about loading down hill to a truck either. Said he didn't mind loading up a bit of a hill to the truck.
