the question is,and it might be an obvious one
what is the difference between a 494 and a 1240?
the reason in asking is ,i need to get an opperators manual for it.and the planters look the same to me with some minor differences. thanks in advance, max adams

I have a 1249 planter that uses plates, they made them both ways in the 1240 . I had a 494a they use a gear box to change seed population and the 1240 uses sprocket combinations. The 494a would only adjust to 32 inch rows unless you got the narrow seed box next to the wheels, but 1240 could be adjusted to less with the round seed box, I can use my old 494 plates in the 1240. pappy

The 494's got seed plates and I think the 1240 is a plateless planter.

The order of production was 494, 494A, 1240. 494 had round tube frame to mount the fertilizer openers (hard to hold them on tight). 494A had square tube mounting frames. 1240 was their first plateless planter.1300 was made a short time, very heavy and clumsy, but looked cool with all those long boxes. 7000 came out about 1974.
