does anyone know what a discbine in decent condition would go for in the new england area. i have been thinking about buying a used haybine but i have been wondering how much more expensive it would be to get a used discbine, i have been told they are alot better and easier to use.

Mark,
I am a custom hay baler here in north central Texas and I have run sickle cutters for a majoritiy of that time. The only disc cutter I had was a New Holland 462(made by Kuhn). It was a cutting machine for sure, does costs to work on them. If you shell a gear in the cutterbar your going to get several of the others as well. The newer cutters are being made to correct that problem. You could pick up a pretty decent 3pt model for around $3500 or so which would do you pretty good. Only thing is shelling a gear in the cutterbar. I priced the bearings to completly rebuild the one I had, was going to run over $800.00, quickly told him to just give me the one I needed at the time. You can get some better deals that the ones mentioned on discbines(cutter and conditioner in one) if you just shop around. I kind of like the cut a sickle makes though. Give me a shout if you want to talk hay.

wow, looks like i will be just sticking to my original plan of finding a haybine instead, i am not farming full time or anything like that, just wanted to do some hay and stuff, i have a nh 268 bailer and a ford 8000 right now, i will probably cut it with a sicklebar for a while but would like to get a haybine at some point.

Mark, you have to be real careful buying used discbine as they are very expensive to repair.I am a JD person but NH makes a better cutter than JD in my years of experience of custom baling.I had a JD 1460 and traded it for NH.Jim B

I sell for a NH dealer in OR. IN stock I have NH 408 $8500 NH 411 $5500 Hesston 1320 $11000 Gehl 1360 $8500 JD 1460 $4500. That should give you an idea of some prices. Price is going to depend heavily on condition and use of unit.
