Fast hitch mower

I have an IH fast hitch mower for the utility
series tractors. It has a cable with a pulley that is supposed to hook onto the tractor, I
believe it is to lift up the bar when raising
the hitch. Does anyone know where that cable
would normally be attatched? Thanks.

Not real familiar with the IH Fast Hitch, but on most Sickle-bar mowers, the cable would attach the a bracket on the left lift arm of the 3-point hitch. As the arm lifted, the cable was pulled tight over a fixed pulley under the tractor, and the tension would lift the cutting arm up (along with the whole mower).

This is how early Ferguson, Dearborn, and some Olivers did it, assuming it was a 3-point hitch. I'm thinkin' your pulley should bolt to the bottom of the left axle trumpet, usually using the same bolts as the fender. The cable runs from some attachment point on the cutting bar, over some linkage on the mower, under the axle pulley, and then up to an attachement bracket on the lift arm.

Hope this helps, sorry if it doesn't. I went through this too, trying to figure out mine....

I have a Farmall 350 and a IH 100 Balance Mower. Assuming the fast hitch configuration isn't radically different on the utility tractors, the chain/cable from the left side of the mower attaches to a clevis under the hydraulic ram of the Fast Hitch. The mower also has a chain on the right arm of the hitch that attaches to a mount point on the tractor at the right side of the upper arm bearing. This 2nd chain limits the downward motion of the mower. Make sure you don't have the pin installed under the hydralic ram that causes hitch down pressure.
