I have just purchased a 1953 Ford tractor. When checking the oils I have found the transmission fluid has water in the case. The previous owner said he had trouble keeping the water out of the transmission fluid also. This doesn't seem to be comeing from outside ( no rain or runoff water could get in) and there is no connection to te engine water. Could it be condensation?
I need help on this. Thanks

I strongly suspect if you change the fluid and keep the tractor under cover, the problem will mysteriously disappear.

When I got my 8N about 4 years ago, I noticed water in the transmission oil when it was delivered. The guy--a dealer's mechanic--told me that every Ford N he'd ever worked on or used had the same problem and that he believed it to be condensation.

Over on the N board, somebody said that water typically came in around a worn boot at the base of the shift lever. So I replaced my boot and (knock wood) have never had any indication of moisture in the tranny since.

Don't know, but it is worth a try.
