Hey All,

I want to put a Balanced Head Sickle Bar mower on my 1940 Farmall H. The tractor has hydrolics obviously, but no aftermarket 3 pt.

It would really help me a lot to hear your experiences with specific models, and style of these mowers. The goal is to be able to use it to "mow" pond banks and steep hillsides...

Thanks in advance,
Pete in PA

You want the IH 120 Balanced head mower.
It will bolt on to your H drawbar. Someday if you get a tractor with a IH fast hitch or 3 point hitch it will also work on them. The 120 has a caster wheel in the back.

Oliver made some nice units in the '50's, semi and drawbar mounted. Had balanced heads and could cut well below and above horizontal. Parts hard to find though. Well engineered and durable if you can one in good shape. I use a #355 designed for the 3-point, but the basic design is common to most Olivers of the period.
