I would like to put in a couple acres of alfalfa or clover. What would work best with my 8n and how much do they usually cost. I already have the 2 bottom plow, disk, draw bar and drags.

Park the 8n and get a cyclone seeder where you buy your seed or any farm supply store(~$25). Strap it over your shoulder, pour in the seed, turn the crank, and start walking. There are settings for size of seed and coverage. Works even better if you have a walkman with some marching music. Then take Richard's advice and roll it in.

I put my alfalfa in with a Brillion Seeder. These machines were made for alfalfa seeding. A drill could plant the seed to deep. Deeper than 1/4 inch is too deep. Need good firm seedbed. If you can walk on the seedbed and leave a footprint about 1/4 to 1/2 inch its about right. If you end up using a drill try to get one with a small seed attachment and let the seed drop out of the tubes. I am a firm believer in packing the seedbed after disking/harrowing and after seeding to get good seed to soil contact. Make sure to use an inoculant with the alfalfa or get the coated alfalfa. HTH
