I am cleaning up a New Idea Model 251 Full Trailing mower - 7' sickle bar, mechanical action, etc. It was painted in a deep green (most of the mechanical stuff) and an orange (various shields and the wheels) color. Does anybody know where to get the matching paint colors for this? How about the New Idea decal that was on the pto shaft shield and on the grass board?

Thanks, any other comments on this machine are welcome, I'm a novice at this stuff.

Steve

New Idea is now part of AGCO. Check with one of their dealers for paint and decals. Sounds like the mower Dad bought in the late 50s. Does it have the spring-loaded swing away hitch that pops loose when hitting obstructions? Trip rope operates the mechanical lift? Yours might be newer- ours was dark green with mostly galvanized sheet metal shields.

According to a parts list that I have, New Idea first produced the 251 mower in 1958. This would include your date. Yes it has the spring loaded safety hitch and the rope operated mechanical lift. I'll try to find a local AGCO dealer and see where that gets me.

Thanks.
