Looking for prices paid at local auctions- can the loyal auction folks give me soem ideas?
I'm looking for an older (read-cheap) 3 pt cultivator that would have adjustable spacing. I'd like to run three 16" shoes about 32" apart. I know that things are worth what people will pay but what have you seen sell? Thanks. Brian

Where I live in New Jersey, a Ferguson or Dearborn will bring $400 in good shape, probably because there is now a collector following. However, I've seen John Deere and Brillion tool-bar type 4 rows sell for $100 or less. If I needed a 2-row, I'd buy one of those 4-rows and cut down the toolbar. Then there would be spare parts from the outer gangs.

Brian:

here in west-central Maryland, I've seen older 2 row cultivators (like the Dearborn or Ferguson) consistently go for $250-450 at auction depending on who shows up.

But I also know that if you keep your eyes open, you'll find them sitting behind barns and sheds collecting rust and briars, and some guys will part with them lots less. Just got to look and ask around.

good luck!
Tom

Around southern MN, small rear-mount row-crop cultivators are cheap. Even big ones are cheap - I paid $50 for a 15", 15 row cultivator. So, I could make 5 of your size with a torch & 4 3-point brackets welded on. :)

Anyhow, with RR soybeans, and small farmers dying off, these things are real cheap at farm auctions here in the midwest. $25 - $150 should find one.

If you did not mean row crop, but a field cultivator, same thing applies, about the same prices.
