I recently purchased a 4A 16" two bottom plow and in the process have noted that they were manufactured the same years(1934-1949) as the #52. In some literature you will see both plows featured and they look identical from pictures. What is the difference?Anyone know? John

John, What ET says is pretty much correct, the #4A plow used a crank for leveling and a lever for depth control, the later 4B used two levers this makes it easy to tell the 2 apart. 4B has 1 3/4" axles and 4 braces between the beams and a lifting spring whereas the #52 has 1 1/2" axles, three braces and no lift spring.

EJ and Bob; Thanks a lot guys. I'm impressed. Both of you explained why they looked so similar in pictures while Deere claimed that the 4a was the strongest plow made. However, I got the idea that the 4a was a 16",4b a14" and the 4c a12". I did find out that they both used the same shares Thanks John

A 4A plow has a pepsi cap land wheel and is heaver
than the 51 or 52 plow. The 4A was replaced by the 4B around 1934 this plow has a spoked land wheel, it is also heaver than the 51 and 52 with greater trash clearance. It measures 23 inches from the tip of the point up to the frame. The 4B was built until the late 1940's and could be bought on rubber.
