Calcium Filling Tires

I made a set up for filling tires with calcium out of an old beer keg. I never had to use it until now. This past summer I repaired a tire that had a piece of wire in it. Like a dope, I just filled the tire with straight water. (JD 2040 with a loader. Doesn't move very good with out the weight in the tire) Cold weather froze it. Lucky for me it didn't hurt the tire, but killed the new tube. I have gotten a quote on getting the tire filled, but they want 125.00 just to fill it with calcium. It's time to use my set up. My question is, I never mixed it before. How much calcium do I use per gallon of water and is there a special way to mix it? Thanks for your help.

Hi, Had new tires put on my 165 and the dealer said they were using some form of antifreeze, unless they could reuse your old fluid. Bill

Thank you all for the help. I wouldn't have known about putting the water in first either. That was a big help also. Wish I was closer to you guys with the surplus mixture. I'm in CT though. Pretty long drive, but thank you for your offer. Had to order the tube so I'll have to wait for it to come in. More and more of our tractor dealers have gone out of business now that almost all the farms have sold to developers. Can't get anything right away without driving an hour or more to get it. It's not easy passing up $100,000 or so an acre. Thanks again. Happy New Year.

wow at that price why not put enought environmentist safe anti freeze in the tires, the old timers here in tx always put about 1/2 gallon in their radiators, said it might get mushy but never freeze solid..i have never tried this always run it below 0...i know we don't get cold here as the north does, wish someone would try to mix some as an experiment just to see how much it would take to stop it from freezing over. have nice day may god bless

Jay: If you happen to be near SW Ontario, come with container, probably 30-35 gals still in tires. The price is same as last guy.

Jay,

Put water in your tank or barrell FIRST, then add calcium that you need. Do not, I repeat, DO NOT put calcium in first and then add water. You will have a major mess and possibly some personal injury!!!

Somebody in the past posted a link to a chart that showed how much calcium for temperature also how much the final weight would be. Hopefully they will again or somebody else will remeber better than me.

You put 40 kilo of calcium in 30 gallon imp.of water.Put water in container before calcium. Add calcium slowly same time you mix hard with a piece of wood. Then pump into your tire. For a 18.4 30 add 60 gallon imp. of water. Bernard le mécano QC Canada
