A buddy of mine needs to put a floor in a gooseneck cow hauler. He heard about boards made of rubber or something like it. Said the wood was to slick for the cattle and didn't like throwing gravel in on the floor. Has anyone heard of these boards? Thanks for any help. Jake

Jake,

I'm no expert on this but how about using treated planks and then bolting cow mats onto the floor.

My 2 bits worth,

It's called Rumber. Redneck Trailer supply has it. Check locally. Take a LOT of money.

This does not solve your problem, but the topic reminded me of a car hauler trailer I saw recently. Instead of wood planks, the deck was made of aluminum bleacher seats. The trailer was 5 years old and being used by a full-time auto transporter. It still looked brand new!

Wouldn't be good for a cattle trailer, though.

I have seen the rubber product you are talking about. MAURER trailers uses it. As I recall it is kind of spendy but would work pretty good for your application.

Their address is Maurer Manufacturing
1300 38 Ave W
Spencer, IA

712 262 2992

They don't make the product but should be able to hook you up with a supplier.

Another idea that I used on my flatbed similiar to the cattle panel is to use expanded metal. Provides a more uniform surface and I think it looks a little more finished.

I suspect what he is talking about is a product called Tuffdek. I have seen it under other product names also. It is made of recycled plastic.Looks pretty good. Cuts and works about like wood. They sell it around here at most lumber yards and home centers. One kind I saw had styrations in it to make it less slick for use on docks and the such. Looks like a good product.

If you can't find the "rubber" flooring; another idea is to get fencing panels (about 5 ft by 20 ft)and nail them down with some heavy staples. They stand up just enough for the livestock to 'get a grip'.

I agree with the panels, i have them in my trailers, works pretty good, i have them nailed down in the front and along the sides. I also throw a lil bit of saw dust on the floor too about 1/2 in thick for extra grip and so its not as hard on the hooves. The panel idea is a lot easier and cheaper then puttin a whole new floor in also. All u would need is one panel and some staples total about $30.00 (and thats overestimating)
