When hooking my mower to my 8N, my PTO shaft is @ 3" too long. I have an ORC on it. That makes it @ 3" or more longer. Would a 1 3/8" adapter w/o ORC still lenghten the PTO drive or would it stay the same? I really don't want to cut the shaft down. Not because I'm lazy, just because I know I'll be sorry later. I know I can replace the 1 1/8" drive to 1 3/8", but don't want to spend the money on that and have to replace the ORC, too. Do I need an ORC for the 501? Give it to me straight fellows.(%^)I can take it. TIA

Here's a pto assembly on ebay. Current bid is $66.00. Buy It Now price is $87. Add $15 to ship and that's still cheaper than the New Holland dealer. Cutting the driveshaft then having to build a new one later will cost that much or more (ask me how I know).

Are you talking about a sickle bar mower? Don't need an ORC on it. I would take it off and the pto shaft should be the right length.

Have fun
Charles :)

But, I would have to use a 1 3/8 adaptor. Would it lenghten the PTO drive? I've never seen the adaptor w/o ORC. Thanks.

Depend on what style of adapter you use.Cast adapter with 1 3/8 stub to the rear will lengthen it. But years ago one could buy a steel sleeve that slipped over the tractor shaft, was made out of 1/8 inch material, so the outside was 1 3/8 dia. Internal splines matched 1 1/8 tractor shaft.

Your right about those, I know my equipment dealer carries that type of adapter, but i dont think i have ever seen them at Tractor Supply, i bought mine at Farm and Family Center, but since there out of business thats a problem, check with your nearest equipment dealer

Well, My Dad brought me a TSC catalog today and the first page I turned to was the ORC and adaptor page. (%^) There it is. Just what I need. A sleeve to fit a 1 1/8" to 1 3/8". It fits over the rear 1/2 of the PTO drive. I thought it would be hard to make one that fit the full length of the PTO drive. That makes sense. Don't need to. The rear 1/2 is all that is needed. Now all I need is a little luck. Hope TSC has one in stock. I'm anxious to cut some grass and try it out. I've had it for @ a month. Thanks for the posts. I'll keep lurking! DON TX

U dont need an ORC for a sickle bar mower, for one the mower will in no way build up the momentum like a bush hog will to push u into a fencerow. U'll be safe without the ORC.
