I have a 6 foot John Deere harrow that I use on our hobby farm to piddle around with and all that I know about it is that it is a John Deere. I am going to give a description of it and hope that someone out there can tell me a little about it such as model number and parts availability. Like I said it is 6 foot and the main structure that the disc hang from is a large circle. It can be adjusted by simply removing a pin and using a pushing mechanism to slide along the square tubing that has a number of holes drilled in it. Maybe someone has one like it and can share their experiences with me. Thanks for your time!!!

As the other have mentioned, your disk is a model Y. I have an original dealers parts catalog ( Sept. 1966 ). It states in there the beginning year of manufacture was 1966. If you ever need any info out of the catalog just hollar. I'm over on the JD board every day.

WOW, I am glad that nobody here in Michigan get's into fights about what to call an implement. A lot just depends on what you are raised up saying. I get pretty offended when the term "wanna be" is used. I dont think their are many wanna be's out their. They just give it their best shot and see what happens. Living on a farm since I was born and farming 6800 acres I still realize that it takes both large farms and small farms to make the world turn.
Just remember " Don't criticize the farmer with your mouth full."

Hi Matthew,
Seems like the one post from mr. perfect has got the topic off course. Call the plow whatever you want to call it, what difference does it really make? We call them tandums most of the time here in TX. I know the style you are refering too but I don't know the model. One of your best bets is to go to your local Deere dealer adn ask the parts guys to look at the books on disks of that approx. age and sytle, chances are they will know the one your talking about right off. You could take a picture of it and take that with you to help them to locate it and also post it here on yt and maybe someone right off might know. Hope this helps.

Matthew - Technically , you're correct , they are referred to as Disc Harrows and always have been.Over the years , terms for equipment seem to get regionalized , the same piece just different terminology. I can't identify that particular model.

I dont know where yer from, and it may be different in different areas, but in Kansas. where I was born, a disc is a disc, and a harrow is a harrow, and the two are not married together in farmer lingo. Only wannabe farmers either call them a harrow, or a disc harrow. No offence intended, just thought iffn yer gonna live out here and be amougst us, you might like not for everybody to know you wernt born a farmer, until you proved it didntr make a difference.

I took no offense to your comments; however, I do not think that anyone should hold anybody responsible for using the correct terms or being a farmer when they do not claim to be a farmer or for that matter an expert at something. After all, isn't it the purpose of these forums for someone seeking information to ask someone who has the information and not be criticized. If someone knew the answer to what they were asking, then why would they even post a question in the first place. Anyway it's all said and done. Lets move on.

Wal, it seems that in a few sections fof the kantry thar known as disc harrers, and it would seem thet all who replied thut I intended fer my post to mean I had visited all 48 states and knew whut went on inna alla them. I still state, in N E Kans, and N W Mo, to any and all I had any dealing with the last over 50 ars, they werecalled as I stated. It appairantly is obvisious to me thet all thu guys who responded to my post can read as most had a ccatalog listing them as disc harrows. Again, I never had an argument with qwhat the impliment makers called them, , BUT THE JOHN DEERE DEALER AND IHC DEALER IN ST JOE MO called them discsor harrows. THIS MUCH KNOW. course, alotta of them back then also farmed. My appologie iffn ya took me wrong. alotta people do that nowadays. lol Bill

Dear Okla Kans Bill,

I am holding in my hand the Operator's Manual for the John Deere Model "KBL" Disk Harrow (yes, it reads "Disk Harrow"). Are you calling the folks at John Deere "wannabe farmers"? Is it possible that the folks from where you come from aren't as informed as they would like to think they are? Next time you plan to put someone down, get your information straight first.

Cordially,
Edward

Wow I really appreciate that. I don't know that much about farming, as I stated in my question, and hate that a simple question such as this caused such controversy. I am telling this to you and hope that everyone else notices and reads it. I NEVER IN ANY STATEMENT THAT I HAVE MADE ON THIS ENTIRE WEBSITE CLAIMED TO BE A "FARMER" AND I AM STILL NOT DOING SO. I WAS JUST TRYING TO GET SOME SIMPLE INFORMATION ON SOMETHING THAT I KNOW LITTLE ABOUT. Thanks to all those who submitted a POSITIVE answer to my question.

You OR right farmers refer to them as disc, and a harrow was something that had either 3 or 4 sections and was used after you disked. However John Deere refers to them as Disc Harrows. Russ

'Real' farmers in Pennsylvania and New Jersey call them disk harrows on occasion. See my post about the spring tooth . . . .
