does anyone know who in the new england region is a kuhn disc mower dealer, kuhns website only shows one place in the middle of the country. i am in connecticut. i have been considering getting a disk mower for hay instead of finding a used haybine. they seem to be comparably priced to a used haybine

Here's a few names that I believe handle Kuhn
and other disc mowers as well.

Kahn Tractor, Route 32, Noth Franklin, CT
800-327-5246

Devon Lane Farm Supply, Route 202,Belchertown,MA
800-413-3276

Padula Bros. Lunenburg, MA 508-534-6421

R.N. Johnson, Walpole, NH 603-756-3321

I bought a New Idea 7' disc (3-pt mount) from
Devon Lane and have been very pleased. You'll
need 60+ hp to travel at a good ground speed.
Also the 3-pt model is heavy to carry so tractor
size is an important consideration.

thanks for the response, are you from the new england area just outa curiosity?, also how happy are you with using your disk mower for hay as opposed to a haybine, i know that the hay isnt crimped but is that a big deal realy? i have the horsepower to run it, my tractor is a ford 8000 which is 105 horsepower.

Except for baleage all I use are disc mowers. Usually run a tedder as soon as the hay wilts (same day as I cut). If grass that's it, alfalfa I usually ted again the second day with dew on it. A disc conditioner would be nice but I can buy 2 new disc mowers and two good used tedders 18' tedders for the price of a new disc cond.

My dad's run NI disc mowers for 18 yrs. I've had Deere (Kuhn cutter bar) and Bush Hog. Cut beside him last year and I trade traded my Bush Hog of for a NI the next week.

Located in RI. I have a Hesston PT7 mower/cond
and a New Idea 5207 disc mower. I prefer the
pull behind PT7 for cutting hay. The 3pt disc
works great and cuts everything with ease but it
is heavy on the 3pt. The best would be a tow
behind disc/conditioner, but I can't justify the
cost. Conditioning the hay gives much better
color and quality and also gets it off the field
much quicker. A tedder will in effect do the same thing so no, crimping isn't a must. With the
power you have available you could run a good
size mower of any type or weight.

There is a company that makes a carrier for your 3pt disk mowers so they can be used a pull type. I have the web site around here somewhere, drop me an email if you would like it and I'll dig it up for ya.
