I stoped and asked an old fella about a old moline tractor he had parked outside and he wants to sell it and a horse drawn drill. I have never seen one of these before but know they must have made them, how else did they drill? Anyway I didn't see a name on it and the box is gone from the wheather. He wants $250 for it and $300 for the tractor. He must know what he's got! What's your opinion? Thanks

The tractor has been sitting outside for about 10 years the guy said. It has a mounted two row culivator also. He said last time he used it he parked it for the year and rented the ground out the next year and never touched it again. What a shame because now it is stuck and tires are rotten. I don't know the model, it looks like a 40's compared to the pictures on this website. He also has a plow,Case SC, and old self propelled combine. All outside. He is moving to town and wants to clean up without calling the iron guy! Thanks for all the replies on the drill.

I have a 1924 Mc Cormick Deering 14 hole drill with no small seeder box. It will sow alfalfa, oats, beans, wheat, clover, lespedezia, any grass seed in the big box though it sows smal seed on the heavy side. I bought it at auction for $2 00. a couplea years later I paid $14 00 for new lumber and redid the boards on the box. That was 30 + yrs ago. I redid it again, paid $30 00 some dollars for wood that wasnt near as good as the wood i first bought and redid it again. My dad has a 12 hole JD Van Brundt drill with the small seed box. It has always set indoors. He used it up till this year when he bought a newer JD drill. He intends to sell the old one at a horse and machinery auction in the spring. I intend to buy it by then. Yes $250 for the drill in the shape its in is crazy. $50 00 max, but then again the Moline is probably (not kn owing its condition) is worthway ore than $300 00, so it evens out. Ide buy it all to get the tractor, and if its in any condition at all youve stole it. Rebuilding the drill is easy. Its just getting the bottoms back in the right place that has always givin me fits. Good luck. Bill

All John Deere drills I ever saw had odd number of openings and IHC all had even number. I had a 10 hole IHC now have 13 hole JD .I have seen a few one horse drills but i would consider them rare. An earlier post was correct as they could be used to drill wheat or rye between standing rowws of corn.

I have a horse drawn ontario drill that I have planted oats, wheat and some seedings with several times. Works as good as a tractor drill except its slower going. As far as cost of one, people often buy one just for the wooden wheels. I would suspect from the price you gave thats what the seller is thinking.

People like to take the end plates too. That could be another reason why the seller wants $250

Horse drawn drills are not rare in my area. We have a horse drawn Monitor drill. Somebody told me that Monitor was bought out by Moline. We also have horse drawn Van Brunt 5 disk drill. This drill is designed to seed in between the rows of corn. Neighbor has the remains of a Kentucky drill. I think $250 is a little high for the drill.
