I posted this by accident in the Case room, Bet it made them happy lol. Ive got a 37 F-30 and I was discing with a 16ft wing disc without the wings around 2 weeks ago. It was cold as swell. I had a flap cap and jacket and gloves and still was cold. I was discing cross furrows at an angle and I think the only way i kept warm was being jostled around in my clothes, but my hands froze. Anyway the 30 got HOT. I finally lost her in a turn and then she boiled out 2 gal of antifreez. ( idint have a rubber gasket under the radiator cap, I do now, but, what made her get hot in the first place. I was only out around 2/3 hrs. Also, I noticed a partial decal just under the air cleaner mounting bracket on the radiator I hadnt noticed before. It is egg shaped, with a thin white line aroud it and it is blue. Any ideas? Thanks

If the timing was off a little, that could have made it heat. Also, how clean is the radiator & what's your anti-freeze mixture? Too little anti-freeze will cause it to jell in the radiator-a common problem if it isn't at least a 50/50 mix in the cold wind-thats why you see people running w/rads partly covered in cold weather. Hope you didn't hurt her! (My $0.02 worth. jal-SD)

Maybe it depends on what area you are from. The more antifreeze you add to the water the colder the tempature it takes to freeze. In most cases, the 50/50 mix is sufficient. Anyways, the coolant should not jell if you are running with the correct antifreeze mixture for your climate. If it is jelling in the radiator, then it is freezing the coolant. Nothing to do with the antifreeze, it is the opperators fault for not having the correct mixture. I never really thought about it, but perhaps the people down south don't mix antifreeze with water as strong as the people up north. Who knows, the people in Texas might be running straight water. The people in North Dakota maybe running straight antifreeze. I live half way in between and the 50/50 mix is sufficient. Nobody ever freezes up unless they have weaker mixture. The bigger trucks and stuff run with radiator covers. Solely for the purpose of keeping the bigger coolant system to run at normal warm temperatures, not for keeping the radiator from freezing.
