I'm trying to help my nephew who lives in southern Michigan on several acres with LOTS of mature trees. He mows most of the area, and wants to remove most of the fallen leaves.

His lawn tractor is a JD 425.

I'm willing to listen to any/all of your ideas for how he might gather/handle/move these leaves.

I use a JD 325 with a JD Pirana mulching deck and the leaves magically disappear. Might take 2 or 3 times to really grind them up, going backwards holds the leaves in the deck longer for more grinding of the leaves.

Mulch them up good and leave them right in place. Grass and trees need food. Where would you take them if you would pick them up? In our area it will very soon be illegal to transport them to another area---- to burn or spred or whatever.

I'm with you!! Sereral acres of leaves??? No one seems to realize that the trees ect.. need the natural food that's there, not some chemical fert. dumped on the ground to replace them!! Mulch them! Robert

I have a similar problem, but have solved it. Simplicity has a fan attachment for the mower deck that is driven off the main deck pulley. It fastens at the discharge chute and provides plenty of power to propel leaves, even wet ones, into a lawn cart pulled behind the tractor. I built a screen enclosed rack for the cart and directed a hose into the front of the cart. I pull a 17 cubic foot cart with a 36" high rack, making it about quadruple the 17cu ft. It works great. I don't know if you can make the fan attachment work on your JD or if you need to trade tractors, but the Simplicity works great. For me leaves are a much bigger problem than cutting the grass all summer and I have been very pleased with this arrangement. I hope you can get something to work as well. You might talk to the local Simplicity dealer about adapting the JD.

My father in law did about the same thing on his Murray rider. He built a wire trailer out of poultry wire and wood frame, and used 6 inch round metal duct to make a chute that would attach to his mower deck.
The beast works pretty well.
