I have a john deere 2 disc pull type plow. Its a rope lift. I am familiar with Flat bottom plows but not with disc. I like it here on the farm cause we have lots of rocks and it rolls around them. How deep should i expect it to plow. I have a 75 pound weight on it and in some super loose soil it does good to get 6-7 inches in hard ground it only gets about 4" deep. Am i out of adjustment somewhere or is this the way they plow any help and suggestions are welcomed. I need to get this plowing right ive got a few acres i wanna break with it but i wanna make sure i am set up right. Thanks

Yep yer out of adjustment. It should sink as low as the tractor will pull it.

It should be slightly higher on the right side and slightly lower in the rear. About 6" does it on my disc plow but it may take some fine tuning till you get it right for your land and tractor.

Correct me if need be but if added weight is needed to get the plow to work something is wrong? right? I never used a disc plow but tend to think just like a molboard plow it should pull it's self down to the set depth. Just wondering and hopeing to learn something.

Chris - As Burr said you are out of adjustment. These plows will goes as deep as your tractor will pull them. I have the plow in this pic behind an Oliver 550 Dsl. This little tractor will pull the ugly off of Tammy Faye Baker and keep on going.

My experience with the disk plows (new ground plow here in the South) is to let it ride. Depth is maintained by your 3pth controls. You may have to add some sway chains to the lift arms as Burr suggested some time ago.

While I have not found additional weight necessary I have sandy loam with 6" root bed on top. The FORD 10-80 plow had some weight on it. You can drive a little faster with these plows than with moldboard plows in my experience.

This link in the post is the plow as I originally bought it.
