First, all I need is about 4-500 bales a year I have a 530 Ford baler that I have been working on for 2 years and I am close to getting it right but still not quite there so 2 months ago I bought a super 66 NH that is supposed to be in good working condition but reading the archives I am getting mixed opinions on whether it is a good baler or not. But now I am considering a trade that would include a JD 14T that has a crack on the knotter assembly so obviously for 4-500 bales I barely need 1 baler much less 3 so which one do I keep? I do not mind working and adjusting one before I bale but I do not have time to work on it every 25 bales all year. I would love to hear your opinions good or bad on all 3 of the balers thanks Michael Smith

I in MY opinion, I would let the JD 14T go and keep the other two this season. You don't say what is wrong with the Ford baler but it is the newest of the 3 listed and can bale alot of hay with a low HP tractor. The JD has a cracked knotter frame you are already talking more money than the baler is worth in running condition. The NH is CLAIMED to be problem free but until you get a field of hay in the dry I would not part with the Ford which is a known entity and you do know what to expect from it. If the NH bales perfectly then part with the Ford to someone else that wants a good baler and let them finish fixing whatever might be wrong with it. The Ford was a baler designed and built in the late 60's early 70's and the S66 was a baler designed and built in the early 50's. I don't know what the capacity of the S66 is but the Ford will bale up to 14 tons an hour if I remember the literature but I know I have baled alot of hay with it in a day. It eats as much hay as my 2000 can stand to digest. Now that is my opinion and you can figure it is worth as much as you paid for it LOL Let us know because you are in a unique position to try ultimately 3 of the most talked about balers on this forum and can let us know how they bale.....

Keep both the Ford and New Holland this season, if either does not want to work then you still have the opertunity to get your hay in. The New Holland that is supposed to work may not, keep the Ford but try the New Holland and then if it works, only then get rid of the Ford

Get rid of the red ones. They were not kind to tractor pto's or owners. Good scrap prices these days.

I'll agree with the red and gold. That is just about all New Holland did for many years. That was there bussiness and I think they did it good. We ran a 310 or 311 hayliner and it was a good baler. When it was new baled 20,000 bales a year.

Go with the red and gold. The New Holland will work rings around the other two IF it is adjusted properly and not worn completely out. Some years ago we baled between 12000 and 15000 bales a year with a NH 268, never had to rebale more than one or two in a day unless I had the tension too tight and the bale would just bust. My fault not the machine. Here in Missouri, NH is the baler of choice.

My used 14T had a mind of its own- did right while the mechanic was there but wouldn't perform when he left. The right knotter wouldn't hardly make a knot-I adjusted and he adjusted everything but think it was slam wore out to begin with. Their knotter arms are "knott" cheap but then again what replacement parts from the dealer are! If you want some slightly used parts..... or I'll make you a deal one this one to add to your collection. My collection is twice as large as when I started out. Bought a Int'l 424 two years ago and it has done pretty good. The 14T is in the bushes. Sometimes I think making hay is just hit or miss with old equipment.
Good Luck

in my opinion international never made a decent square baler. Their Knotters are garbage. Put john deere knotters on it and you got a good baler. my neighbor down the road had a international model 37. that thing was nothing but trouble it tied about half the bales and you tied the other half. I would go with the John deere or the new holland any day. Just my opinion.

Heck, we ran that much through a NH super 77 equiped with a V-4 Wisconsin. I think the 66 is a good machine and was proven to be a good machine back in the day. We ran the 77 up until last year and it was also a dependable machine, never any problems.
