I am thinking about hooking the cultimulcher behind the disk if I can this year. Both are 7'. Any idea on HP I'll need? Will a farmall M pull it?

Mike

PS. Thought about putting a 2 row planter behind but I don't have a 40+ acre field to turn around in...

I doubt it. Around here a cultimulcher ccan pull almost as hard as a disk .If you disk it once first maybe it'd work. Are these hyd lift implements, if so how would you lift them both if you get in a wet spot and it starts to pull too hard. If youre talking disk with cultipacker behind I'd say go for it, it will do a good job if the ground fits up a little cloddy. To run 7' disk and equal cultipacker at least 65-70 horse to do a good job. Remember too much slippage or too slow ground speed the ground wont fit up as nice. The only way to know for sure, give it a try and let us know!

yeh it should pull them both depending on soil and how deep you run the cultimulchers tines. my mistake was i used a 10' kewanne disc and 8 ' dunham cultimulcher AND a 10' drag which was too much and i thinkworked the engine a little too hard for the shape it was in and probably did the clutch too! so much for "efficiency" ! if the tractor is fairly fresh in the motor meaning recently overhauled it should be ok. but an older motor like mine now smokes even though i didnt run either very dep at all. lots of guys like to brag about how much they pull with their equipment. but i wouldnt buy a tractor off them!!to do a good job and not pull the guts out i would not go over 7 or 8 foot on the 2 implements and dont work very deep . if anything just hook the planter to the cultimulcher . that is what we did with a 6 row jd max emerge. good luck . and be careful. overloaded tractors will rotate over the back axle faster than you can shake a stick!!

I don't know if an M would pull a disk AND a "Cultimulcher". Do you mean "Cultimulcher" or "Cultipacker"? I pull a 12ft IH 37 Disk and a 12ft Brillion Packer with our Super M-TA and have no problems. I doubt that a "cultimulcher" behind the disk would work as nice. The Cultimulcher we used pulled hard, but it was a 12fter and took a 60hp tractor to make a good job.

ya know, packer in the front, 2 rows of spring teeth in the middle, then another packer? I love this thing, lots of times it works better than the disk. This fall it was the only thing I used after plowing and I think if I would have done a better(more level) job plowing the field would look nice. It fitted up nice, though. The one I have pulls real easy, I pulled the mulcher with a worn out Farmall A. Couldn't go down the field in road gear, but it could go in second sometimes third.

if that M won't pull both at 5 mile per hour then you better rebuild it. I have pulled two 7' double disks with my Oliver 66 which is a smaller tractor.

I cannot speak on the cultimulcher but can share my experience. I run some acreage (mix of row crop & planted pines) with an Oliver 550 Dsl (~42 hp at drawbar). I use a 10' IHC transport disk harrow and behind it I have a 12' piece of common railroad iron. I run in second gear but could go to 3rd if needed. My soil is mixture of very sandy loam and heavy DEEP clay.

My biggest complaint is having to heave that railroad iron on to the disk when traveling the country road from field to field. My gates are now 14' wide but were originally 10' - don't ask :)
