Thanks to Tim, Hugh, Rhudson. I appreciate all your help. Will go to the auction this weekend. Will let you know how things go. Hay is scares around here this winter. So it may go pretty high. Thanks again Lawrence.

Lawrence, the S69 came out in 1959. They made it for 3 years. It was that good that if my memory serves me correctly, the S69 held the record for many years as the lowest number of warranty claims of any model New Holland Baler untill the 311 came out. As far as the difference between S68 and S69, the S68 plunger rode on wooden slides and the S69 rode on bearings. As great as they are, keep in mind that they are over 40 years old. Steve

Steve: I was a bit hesitant in earlier post to say when I bought S69. I thought 1959 but wasn't absolutly sure. Did the 460 haybine come out the same year or was it 1960. My baler was new Sept and haybine following July.

I could understand the S69 having the lowest warrenty claims all those many years. But then all New Holland equipment was good in that respect. I don't remember having a warrenty claim ever, on NH equipment. Over years I had 2 haybines, 2 balers, 3 forage harvesters, 3 no 8 crop carriers and couple of manure spreaders. It definately was good equipment in those days, probably still is. I am just out of touch.

Hugh, if memory once again serves me correctly, I believe that in 1991, New Holland celebrated the 50th anniversary of the hay baler and the 25th anniversary of the Haybine. I'm not sure how this lines up with your purchase dates, but I'm fairly certain that in 1960, farmers were still using mowers and crimpers. If anyone has different information, please let me know. I agree, New Holland always made pretty good equipment, but to be totally honest, they also made a few clunkers as well. Not many, but a few. Steve

Steve: My memory is obviously not serving me well on this one. Deep down in my old files I know I could find this. I may be off on these purchase dates. You say the S69 production ran for 3 years, that would end it around 1962. That may well have been baler purchase date.

The figures you have quoted on the 50 and 25 year anniversary, would have to read 25 years plus. According to your figures 1991 would put the haybine at 1966. This I do know, my good wife and I were married in 1965. I am certain 460 haybine had been around a couple of haying seasons before that.

The other item I will throw out to you is, I live in Canada. In my lifetime I have seen a few machines introduced in Canada ahead of US. This does not happen often. I can tell you this also. New Holland mowers were not going over well here.

I once read that the New Holland model #460
haybine was introduced in 1964 and was the
first machine of it's kind.
