Over the past few weeks some of us have been discussing the "Krause Plow" photo in the "Help Identify" section of this site. Some think it's a disc plow and others think it's a one-way. I posted a picture of a true disc plow on the "Help Identify" section today. The two upper left photos in the posting are both of true disc plows and the plow behind the tractor in the lower portion of the posting is a moldboard plow. The photo at left center most clearly shows the disc plow details. Comparing that to the "Krause Plow" photo, it is readily seen that the "Krause Plow is a one-way. The posting's label is "John Deere disc Plow".

That looks like a tool we called a "disk tiller." We had a trailer type version built by John Deere. Was used much like a plow, in that you plowed in lands, with tractor wheel in previous furrow, etc. Both furrow wheel and tail wheel (like in photo) were very heavy castings - ours were several pieces bolted together. When you pushed the hydraulic lever down, this thing was goin' down! Was very useful for cutting up heavy sod. We usually disked twice, second time at right angles to the first. That second time over was a rough ride. But it shore tore up the sod. My dad even used his to work up a cedar swamp he had bulldozed, to cut up the tree roots, etc. Had to use dual tires on his JD B! The one in the picture looks like a mounted version, probably could be pulled by a 2/3 plow tractor.

Here's the JD trailer disk/plow version. One heckofa disk! (Had to wait till my son could post the picture.) Wish I could have the one my dad had back again! (Ours had hydraulic lift, almost a necessity, the way we used ours.)

Ray, The unit in your picture is what is commonly called a one-way. All the discs are mounted on a common shaft. A disc plow has each blade connected to a separate mounting bracket.

Ron. In Your post on Help Identify, the middle pic is of a 4 bottom disk plow = to a 4 bottom moldboard.
The Krause plow post is a 3 pt one way plow. the difference in a oneways & a disk plows. Is a disk plow, is a plow where each disk has its own standard. Oneways have several disks mounted on a common shaft,or (gang), in groups rangeing from 4 to 12 or so disk.I will say 99% of oneways in my area are towable and not 3 pt. .
The width of cut is measured in (Ft. of cut) not # of bottoms wheather disk or bottomms. You should see the 14ft., 15ft., 16ft.,cut oneways up in the High Plains of our great country. A lot are in fence rows since the advent of CRP land. Two 15 ft Krause oneways can give a 4020 Fits. Put a third on , and a 5020 will cruise all day . Thats right 45 ft of cut!!!!
A 4630 can't pull 3 plows as well as the 5020. Been there!!!!
Hope this helps.
John A.

Any idea what a 3 bottom disc plow on steel is worth? I have only seen one disc plow in person in my life, and that was last weekend sitting at an abandoned farmstead. I did not take time to look for the manufacturer, but I will go back and check it out if it is worth anything.
