Did I mess up buying Vermeer 605D round baler

I just bought a 605D vermeer baler and paid 1600 for it. It is in good condition and has had the belts replaced recently. The baler has a closed throat and a manual tie system. Should I have spent more and bought a baler with a open throat? Can the 605D be modified to make it a open throat and would it be worth it? Do I really need a open throat baler? I only will bale 50-100 bales a year. How often will the baler clog up because it is a closed throat design?

I was wondering if you have solved the starting problem with your Vermeer 605D closed throat baler. I bought a used 504G closed throat last year and have had major problems starting bales unless the hay is in perfect condition.

Just remember the baler will let you know when your hay is to wet to bale. Make large windrows. Once a bale is started it will swallow a horse. It is desirable for your belts to be loose when the baler is empty. Read the manual if you have one call Vermeer if not and they will send you one free.

I would think that for approximately 100 bales per year you will be happy. I baled 5500 bales last summer with a 605C and would not trade that baler for ANYTHING. It worked better than a new one I never have to worry about starting a bale, I just drive and never look back until it is full. Good luck.
