On most of them the seat was fastened to the tongue. The seat itself was about 2 ft. above the aproximate center of the axle. It was mounted on a piece of spring steel which gave it a little "bounce".

Or seat standard was fastened to the frame, just behind where tongue attached. Gads was that a dusty place to ride. With the dust kicked up by the rake itself, and whatever was pulling it - tractor or horses!

My fault; I was meaning Massy Harris when I typed Ferguson. And that I am not positive, how do I know for sure. Everything else on the place where got it was Massey Harris. It has MH on some of the castings? Thanks Rick

I have a seat that bolted to frame just behind the tongue. It has a spring type tongue that rides against the axle. I seem to remember that arrangement from my Dad`s rake.
