3 point hitch rough shape but everything works. The coulters were of the fixed type.

Ed: The reason I suggested the cushion coulters is just this and may well be reason they are missing. That plow is close to double the weight of regular 3 bottom plow.

I started farming with two bottom plow with fixed coulters. My farm for the most part had the ocasional stone. With the two bottom plow you would hear those stones hit coulter scrape by. I later had a 4 x 16 IH with fixed coulters. Broke a few coulters. When one coulter rolls over that stone, it cant stand the extra weight of 4, 5 or 6 bottoms. I later bought a 5 x 16 semi-mount with shear bolt protection on coulters. Problem is the shear bolts didn't always work. I had enough breakage it was unacceptable. In 1977 I purchased a complete new set of cusion coulters for that plow, all 5. The figure then was $900. Cdn. Probably that translates to $1,000. US for 6 of them by now. I am probably a bit conservative on that current figure.

I guess we are lucky not to have a stone problem.

The reason they were removed is that they plugged up. Sharpening them was probably the right thing to do but the plow worked better with them off.

I bought a 4-16 at auction for $175 without coulters. Ran it one year then put new shares on it this year. Works very well. Just finished with it yesterday, washed it up and it's waiting for fall.

Ed What kind of shape is the rest of the plow in? It is going to spoil $1,000. for those 6 coulters, if you have to buy new. With the weight factor of a roll over plow, cushion coulters are just about a must. You didn't say is it fast hitch or 3 point? What kind of shape from a wear point of view is the roll over device? Darn trouble with these old plows is not what you get them for, but rather what it costs to put them in shape. What are the moalboards and landsides like?
