I have a King Kutter Shredder that just hasn't cut well since it was purchased new 2 years ago. It doesn't cut very even and leaves a lot of stragglers sticking up, plus it always leaves piles of grass behind it. If some one described this to me, I'd say the grass was too tall, or they were pulling it too fast, however, when I used my neighbors shredder it looks almost like you mowed it with a lawn mower. The blades are plenty sharp but I have no other idea why this thing doesn't cut good. Kinda of sounds like its turning way too slow to me. Anyone know what speed 6' blades are suppose to turn? Any other ideas?

what is the horsepower of your gearbox on the cutter? a 40hp usually has a shear pin with a smooth input shaft. if i remember the ratio is 3.1 to1. the 60hp gear box turns faster and has a splined input shaft with a slipclutch.

I sold KK for many years and never had any complaint of this type. Run at 540 PTO RPM. Also check and see if possibly blades were put on backward at factory. From my experience, they are well built, but some of the assembly line workers may not be the brightest on the job market. Never been to the factory, but I always had to check the machines out and make adjustments before delivery to the customer.

Actually, this was purchased at TSC with the TSC branded stickers all over it. First thing I normally do is sand down a new implement and put a decent paint job on them. When I removed the TSC stickers, that is when I found the King Kutter sticker. I've seen the older KK shredders and they're pretty nice and heavy. This is one of those el-cheapo models. One difference I noticed between mine and my neighbors is mine is open all the way across the back by the back wheel (about 2') and his is fully enclosed except for the front.

The 6' KK does good at 540 pto speed.

The main reason with uneven cutting I have is from the blades being bent.

Yes, I'm turning the driveshaft at 540, and the blades are those 2" offset blades and they are on correct. Does anyone know what the "normal" gear box ratio is suppose to be? Surely they didn't put a 1000 rpm gearbox on this thing. Yes, I emailed KK right after I purchased it and they stated to check the blades, and also asked if I was setting it up correctly. I've tried pulling it level, and I also have tried to have the rear about 1" or so higher than the front. Seems to work best with the rear a little higher. The blades aren't razor sharp, but have a real nice edge on them (like from the factory).

i have a pull type 6 ft kk bushhog and it cuts about the same way you have described yours cuts ive sharpened the blades but it does little to help the way it cuts i have 2 other bushhogs a mf and a bushhog brand and they both cut very nice. i dont know what it is about kk but i would never buy another. mine cracked and busted around where the gearbox bolts on and i had to fabricate a new piece to bolt the gear box to. good luck i know your gonna need it.

Like you, i've given up on the low priced rotary cutters too. Since i've been buying Woods rotary cutters i've been a lot happier. I have (3) now, and all cut very good. My next one will be a Woods Brush Bull. Robert

you are correct in having the rear on any rotary mower higher than the front including your lawn mower.otherwise you will be cutting and chopping the same cut several times.don,t have to be much though.mabe 1/2 inch on mower, more on cutter.maual should go over how much.i would insist the factory rep.come to your place next time he is in the area and look at the cutter.you probably do have the wrong gear box.
