I might be asking a stupid question but it needs to be asked. I have a plow that I just bought, it is 4 bottom, roll over plow, John Deere. I believe the number of the plow is 4400. Anyway, I just tried out this past weekend but it doesn't seem to go deep into the ground. Could it be that the ground is to hard and I need for it to rain, plow needs adjustment or needs new blades. Also what is the best time to plow with such plow.

Look at the underside of the plowshare. If the nuts holding the share are worn from dirt rubbing against them, the share is worn too much and will not penetrate the soil. Continuing to use it this way will ruin the frog. If the shares are not worn too much, check the adjustment of the plow, according to the OPERATOR manual. Beyond that, you might just have to make it rain.

In my part of the world, it is best to plow in the fall, let winter mellow the chunks, and then it's easy going in spring. However, different climates can be extremely different. Spring plowing is ok, but in my short growing season I couldn't plow for another month, and then I need to plant right away, without letting the rough ground mellow. Aslo the ground can dry out, & if you are in a dry area that not so good.

You identified the 3 reasons a plow does not penetrate the ground - all good ones. So, which is it? :) Can't tell from here, without a better description. :)
