I just traded some AC B parts for a complete 39 WC. The WC was on an old farm site, next to an old building with small trees growing around it. I had to cut some trees to even move it. I then put steel wheels on the back and a set of my good rubber on the front. Had to use a pipe wrench to break the rust on the steering wheel shaft support so I could steer it. During a break from all the work to get it ready to move, I went exploring around the other buildings. Found an old combine in a tumble down shed, two old spike tooth drags, and next to a wild cherry tree was this 2 bottom trailer plow. In fact one wheel was an still is inbeded in the tree. I made an offer on the drags and the plow, now I have to cut the tree down to get the plow. Question: How can I find out make the plow is. It looks to be in pretty good condition. The moldboards aren't worn and at least the one point that I dug out of the grass isn't broken or worn. Did I do all right at $25 for all three items or did I get took?

The plow has some kind of trip mechanism to lift it out of the ground (will be on the wheel that runs on the unplowed ground, pull on the rope and the ground driven mechanism should lift the plow bottoms), different manufactureres used different designs. Without any other markings to go on you could probably take pictures of that part ot the plow and start showing them around at antique tractor shows, etc.

Thanks to all for the tips. The last time I used a rope pull trip plow was back in '55 with my unstyled WC. Wish I still had the WC. The darn plow did work pretty good if the drive wheel didn't skid on the soft sandy soil I plowed. I think it also made a big difference if I kept the works greased also. I was only 17 or 18 then and didn't know much about mechanics. First thing I have to do is take some close up pictures of the plow at its present site. The furrow wheel is imbedded in the cherry tree with only the inside of the spokes showing. I am going to have to cut the tree down. I don't know why I want the plow except it seemed to be the proper thing to do. Rescue it and restore it. I have a snap coupler plow for my WD and WD45 and I don't even use it except to plow a small garden.

If the Cherry tree is a Black cherry, beware of any livestock that might be around. After cut the Black Cherry leaves wilt and turn extremely poison! The leaves will be poison for a few days until the gas gets out of them and they're dried out!

You did fine. They're worth more than that as scrap metal.

Try to find a hidden corner or place on the frame that is covered by another component and see if there's any paint left on that plow. That'll give you a starting point. Don't know a lot about plows, so can't help you much past that.

Look around for casting numbers. John Deere plows had little "JD" symbols or "Deere" cast in to some of the parts. Case plows had the "Old Abe" eagle cast in on some parts and on the lift mechanism box. IH plows usually had "IHC" cast in somewhere. If you don't see any of this, then you've elimated some possibilities. My gut feeling is though, that since there was an AC WC nearby, it's an AC plow. See, way back when, if you owned a "brand X" tractor, you usually (but not always) also owned "brand X's" plow for that tractor.
