Fast Hitch Plow

I just bought my first fast hitch plow at King's auction. I bought an old style 3 bottom for my 450. Here's the problem, when I got it home and hooked it to the tractor--it didn't seem to lift very high. I had problems taking it to the other barn for storage--the last bottom hung about 2 inches from the ground. Are there any adjustments to make in order to get it higher when transporting it? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Chris

You will find that 6 inches is about the limit? That was one fault with fast hitch. It should however go higher than 2 inches. How much wear do you have in pins and linkages on hitch? I had a shop build up all pins and holes, surprising the change.

With hitch in raised position put a jack under your hitch cross bar and jack on hitch to see if hydraulics are extending hydraulic ram full length. You may have to uncouple down presure hose with that cylinder being double action. That cylinder stroke problem if you have it is in the draft controll linkage. Is your draft controll linkage steel rods and pivots or cable controll?

Look for adjustments on your hitch linkage such as leveling cranks. My suspicion is you probably have a bit of all three items affecting height.

Thanks for the advice Hugh. I will try to find the slop problem. I suspect that you might be right, with the hitch analysis.
THanks Chris

Are you familiar with the internal workings of your tractor hydraulic valve and the draft controll?

This problem of hitch not lifting very high was not unique to IH and fast hitch. The JD, Olivers, MH, Case, Cockshutt, etc. with 3 point were no better. That rear rockshaft just couldn't get good range until they moved the operator ahead out of the way.
