Hugh or anyone, Have Fast Hitch prong width question

I noticed on my Fast Hitch that the sockets are 3" high x 1 1/4" wide and I was wondering if there was a difference in implement prong widths. I noticed that to make the 2 1/2" high x 1" prongs of a Fast Hitch sickle bar mower fit the larger size Fast Hitch sockets (by using shims in the sockets), that this fixes the height, but also there would still be 1/4" side looseness between them. So basically I was wondering are there two different prong width sizes on implements or did IH design a 1/4" side clearance fit between prongs and sockets.

Thanks, Ray in Pa.

I also have a question- Would a Massey 285 possibly fit a IH quick hitch? reason being is my 285, the 3 pt. has extendable end links that are held on by a bolt going through, and are latched by a groove in the top, kinda like the IH hitch. Just something that hit me today and I can't help but wonder.

Ray, I have cut an inch off of the bottem of my disc points to fit my Super C with no modification to the sides at all. Works fine. Kevin

Ray: I agree with Ernie Bob, no need for side spacers. Pins and holes for them in hitch will probably allow more side movement.

Ray,

I have an IH mower with the small tongs for use with the Super C and 200 series Farmalls and I not only use this with my 200 but I also use it with my SMTA. I put a shim under the tong with nothing on the sides and it works just great. It hold nice and secure without any sideway play. Hope this helps.

Good Luck!

Thanks for the info., I was hoping that no side shims would be needed when using a smaller pronged Fast Hitch sickle bar mower. I was concerned that maybe the 1/4" side clearance between the larger Fast Hitch sockets and the smaller prongs of Fast Hitch sickle bar mower would translate into excessive movement at the very end of the sickle bar. I guess I'll give it a try this summer.

Thanks, Ray in Pa.

Ray,

I thought that I would add that I prefer using my SMTA with the mower due to the live PTO and the TA for speed control. I've probably used the mower more woth the SMTA than my 200.

Good Luck!
