Are there any web sites that will help us, used to be and want to be again, gentleman farmers understand how the plates and gears work in an old cole one row planter. The cole people will send mauals but I assume that would be for the newer MX 12 planters( mine is a much older duplex model). I have some plates and gears and a copy of the old label off the inside of the planter lid. Is that all I need to plant other than a tractor and some seeds?

We purchased the Cole Planter Company in Sep 2003 and are making new Cole Planters and parts for almost all old models. Our new website is coleplanter.com

If you can read the label that is all you will need. Even if every combination is not listed, you can extrapolate from what you have. The seed spacing will increase or decrease in direct proportion to the number of teeth on the gear and cells on the plate. Eg. a 12 cell plate will plant twice the distance apart as a 24 cell plate with the same gear. An 8-tooth gear will plant 1.5 times further apart than a 12 tooth gear on the same plate (12 divided by 8 = 1.5).
Be sure everything turns easy with no binding so that the drive wheel doesn't slip or this will foul up (increase) the spacing.
