I have a JD Model B 14 hole drill, 7" spacings. The chart shows "Sudan Grass", but no mention of the newer hybrid crosses. I purchased my seed which Turner Seed describes as "two way cross" "sorgo sudangrass hybrid" variety is "Sugar Queen". Sack says 26,000 seeds per lb. Seed company told me to plant between 40 and 50 lbs per acre. Question: What number on the JD B drill would I use to plant at those rates?? Thanks

I think you can rely on what bill said. If I did the Math right Ten pounds per acre would be about 17 seed per square foot. If I remember right that is about what we used to plant. I would suggest that you set the drill to the sudan setting on the chart then to check it lay out one sgaure foot and count the seeds to get an idea of where you are on the chart. Then change it a notch or two if need be. I remember Dad seeting an old drill without a chart where about three seed would come out at one time then would count seeds on the ground and go from there. Hope this helps.

Its been awhile but Im pretty sure you dont want to plant that many lbs per acre, I think 6lbs per acre is a great plenty,Maybe up to 10 lbs; Also pretty sure that the chart for sudan grass setting will work,,, Bill
