Which is the better 15' batwing: John Deere or Woods? Both are available in an upcoming auction and dealers for either are close ,too. Pro's and con's appreciated. Deere is 1000rpm with solid tires, Woods is 540rpm with pneumatic tires. Clipping pasture only, no brush.

To compare apples to apples you need to know the model numbers of each. I personally don't think there is a better cutter on the market than a 3180 Woods. You really need to see the specs on each to make your decision.

Ed, Go with the DEERE! A number of years ago the county traded of a bunch of JD batwing shredders for new Woods batwings they lasted 1 summer that fall they traded them back in on new Deeres. They had nothing but trouble from these machines. The county boys cussed them every time we saw them. they couldn't keep them together. The Deeres toughness speak for themself. My shredder is a Deere, you will have to try to tear it up! That my $.02.
Good luck,
John A. PS That JD green looks better than that Woods orange . IMO !

Well John, I sure hope you like that green paint because John Deere sure charged you for it. So for all of those who don't like to pay for paint, steer clear of the Deere

Anyone know if it is practical (cost-effective) to change the 1000rpm gears in a JD 1518 batwing to 540rpm. I have the 1000 and a 540 tractor. Thanks for any help.....Garry

It's my understanding that NOT all Woods batwings are created equil. I think some are lighter built and won't take much abuse. I'm not sure about deere models. You need to get the model numbers and do more research. Robert
