looking at a Hesston 1014 Hydro Swing hay mower. Does anyone have good or bad knowledge of this machine? I understand they seem to work better with higher HP tractors so my 1850 Diesel Oliver should have no problem with it. What could I expect to pay for this unit? Does anyone have knowledge of parts or operators manuals for this machine also? Thanks

I ran one for over 6 years and it was a real durable machine. The only thing I didn't like about it was the rolls were about half as wide as the cutterbar and everything had to be funneled down to them. Sometimes they would plug easily. The secret is to keep the rubber paddles on the auger in good shape so they move the stuff quickly. Also keep the 2 Timkin bearings tight in the center of the arm that runs the sickle. Good luck.

Are the rubber paddles easily replaced, or do you need to remove the roller? It appears that roller may lift off the other one after unbolting the bearings. The farmer running it now said it has not given him any trouble even though half the rubber cover is missing. I am looking for manuals on this machine too. Any sources for those?

Sorry for the late reply. The rubber paddles just bolt on. I don't know where you can get a manual, try a Hesston dealer I guess. We never had to remove a roller so I can't help much there either. It's been 5 years since I ran it so I get fuzzy on the memory part.
