Ferguson 3pt disk question regarding wood bushing

I recently picked up a set of ferguson disks. Someone has cobbled them up a bit and I hoped to repair them correctly. I notice the bushings are missing and are quite sloppy. I have read to just fill them up with grease and go, but would rather fix them to assure they will last. Any insight on replacement parts, a possible manual for sale, or the o.d. and i.d. of the wood bushings would be very helpful. I have a means to get metal bearings fabricated and wonder if this would be a o.k. alternative. Thanks

My grandfather's ABO-22 came new from the factory with cast iron bearings, even the inner spool. If they are still available, they aren't cheap. In 1994 I had to put the upper half of a bearing shell on and just that upper half was $95 from MF. These disks used a 7/8" square axle. I don't think there's a manual around here for it . . . but I'll look.

I also have the same ABO-22; mine came new with cast iron bearings, but I believe they were available both ways. Not only is the bolt 7/8", the spacing between the disks is 6.5" which is also unusual but makes it do a smooth job. Like Tim says you can get the parts from Agco/MF, but the price for the cast iron pieces is prohibitive if you have to replace everything. I often thought that with some ingenuity one could fabricate a hanger to change the unit over to modern sealed ball bearings. If you are going to try and make up wooden pieces, why not remove the top and bottom caps, measure them with a caliper, and then have the pieces turned on a lathe from some kind of very hard wood. These are good disks for making a seedbed because like I said they have a narrow spacing and the disk is very flexible with ball joints and the rear gangs can float giving a nice finish. Good luck.
PS: Let us know if you find a reasonable priced source for the metal caps/spools.
